update! Six Eight Kafe on Temple Row will be opening up for breakfast for us! Come along after the event and grab a coffee and light breakfast & meet your fellow 4am Project photographers!

This year in conjunction with Project Brutal  the 4am Project  comes to iconic Birmingham's Central Library and will allow photographers entry into the library and also exclusive access to some truly magical and breathtaking areas not seen by the public.

With the brutalist library currently on course for demolition this years 4am Project  will provide a final chance for people to capture and celebrate this truly iconic building.

 About Project Brutal

The death knell has sounded for one of Birmingham’s most controversial and significant brutalist structures, Birmingham’s Central Library. Whilst we might not be able to save Birmingham’s central library we still have time to give it one heck of a wake.

Project Brutal aims to do just that by bringing together creative people and networks to help organise and encourage a series of eclectic events and projects that celebrate and capture the building before it’s too late.

Schedule:

3.15am (sharp!) - Meet in front of the Birmingham Library's main entrance on Chamberlain Square.

Group registration and sign in. You will be required to sign a form to say that you agree that you are partaking in the event at your own risk.

Due to the large group of 50 photographers you will be put into two tour groups. Myself, Karen Strunks, will guide you on one tour and Marie Foulstom from Project Prutal will take group two on tour 2. It doesn't matter which group you are in as you will all be taken to the same locations, but we are having to have two groups because space is limited in some areas and we want to give you the full vantage to photograph the library.

3.40am 5.30am - Entry into the library. Group 1 & 2 will be taken to the starting location of their tour. You may notice that I have extended the time of this event from it's usual 4am-5am slot. This is because there is so much to see in the library and we want to make sure you see everything. But as usual, to keep in the spirit of the 4am Project,  please only submit images to the 4am Project that you have taken between the hours of 4am and 5am.

5.30am - Exit and meet at the main door of the library. Six Eight Kafe on Temple Row will be open for breakfast nearby and it would be really great if you could join us, and it will be a chance to meet and socialise with the other 4am photographers.

What to bring with you:

Dress warmly and wear flat comfortable shoes with a good grip. There will be access to a very unique area of the library that (should you chose to view) will require access via a ladder. Ladies, maybe wear trousers for this!

You camera!

Tripod.

Flash and memory cards, and don't forget to charge your batteries :)

Cark Parking

A lot of the streets such as Magaret Street and Colmore Row (map) which are very close to the library will offer free car parking at this time of night.

Accessibility

Please note that not all areas of the tour will be wheelchair accessible.

Please note:

This is a FREE event.

Tickets are limited to 50 places, so if you reserve your ticket, and find you can't make it, please cancel your ticket so it can become available to another participant.
